Fourth Grade Summer Reading List
Students Entering Fourth Grade
Students entering Fourth Grade should read Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. Because of Winn-Dixie, a big, ugly, happy dog, 10-year-old Opal learns 10 things about her long-gone mother from her preacher father. Because of Winn-Dixie, Opal makes new friends among the somewhat unusual residents of her new hometown, Naomi, Florida. Because of Winn-Dixie, Opal begins to find her place in the world and let go of some of the sadness left by her mother's abandonment seven years earlier. Because of the story content, we recommend you read this story with your child. In addition, your child should choose three books, each from a different genre, from the list below. Fill out a book card or email your review to mmcallihan@mustardseedschool.org. Your review will be posted on our fourth grade blog for other classmates to read! Maybe someone will read your book based on your review. Parents are encouraged to read and talk about these books with their child.
