Religious ContextEquipping students to love God, others, and themselvesReligious education at Mustard Seed is a multifaceted program encompassing community worship, celebration, service, and study of the Bible.
Bible curriculumThe story of God and his people is the base of the Bible curriculum at Mustard Seed. Students are invited to see the Bible as God's Word, to remember individual stories and the narrative thread of the Bible, and to understand basic themes running through it. In addition, students are encouraged to respond imaginatively to the stories, to retell them, and to memorize portions of Scripture. The school hopes that the study of the Bible will foster spiritual growth in students, equipping them to love God, others, and themselves. The New Revised Standard Version is the Bible translation used at Mustard Seed School. Students work on a variety of projects that help them understand and imaginatively experience the context in which Bible stories happened. In the beginning years, the central element of each lesson is a Bible story told by the teacher. Multi-sensory follow-up activities encourage students to remember and retell the stories. Understanding Bible times, focusing on the books of the Bible, and looking at the Bible's writers and the kinds of writing are each emphasized during different years of the upper grades. As we come to know God, we see that the model of life set before us in Christ is a life of service. We recognize the diverse gifts and opportunities we have to share with others. Students become involved in serving one other in class, the local community, and the world. |
