Homework PolicyGeneral guidelines
Homework begins in Kindergarten, and Lower School students are usually expected either to be read to or to read for themselves for fifteen minutes each school night. They also write and practice spelling extracted from their writing. These assignments are individualized and are checked daily by the teachers, with written comments to the children and their parents. Students at the fourth grade level and up complete assignments connected with class presentations. There are long-term projects which require organization of time. Children may be expected to conduct individual research, be responsible for individualized reading assignments, and prepare for exams. This type of homework occurs across disciplines, from science to religious education. Upper grade students keep track of daily and long-term assignments by using an assignment book which must be signed nightly by parents. The following times are guidelines for the amount of homework Mustard Seed students will do each school night: Grades K - 2: 15 - 30 minutes Grades 3 - 4: 30 - 60 minutes Grades 5 - 6: 1 - 2 hours Grades 7 - 8: 2 - 3 hours |
