Computer EducationPrograms, philosophy, and school lifeMustard Seed School has had a computer curriculum in grades K-8 since 1983. Students use technology for many creative and productive purposes: exploring programming skills developing composition skills with a word processor (writing poems, stories, reports, etc.), practicing reading, writing, thinking, science, social studies, and math with curriculum-related software, using spread sheets for tracking stock market performance, locating and accessing information globally through the Internet, using CD-ROM encyclopedias to locate and gather information, and using a database for science activities.
Computers are in every classroom at Mustard Seed School, and every classroom is connected to the school's Ethernet network. An iMac lab is available to all students as part of the school library. The Ethernet network permits students to share files and resources, and to print documents at a variety of locations throughout the school. Internet access is available implemented across the network. Mustard Seed School seeks to develop student appreciation of the World Wide Web and to increase resourcefulness in using it. We aspire to develop critical thinking skills as students learn to make wise and safe use of the Internet. |
