Celebration and worshipDeepening faith and encouraging communityCelebration and worship are woven into the fabric of day-to-day life at Mustard Seed. Students' life and learning are rooted in the richness of knowing that God loves them, understands them and that they belong to God. As God's children, they learn to know and care for God's world and God's people. Community worshipCommunity Worship is a daily practice. Younger students gather in the morning and older students gather in the afternoon to sing, pray, hear God's word and reflect together as a school community. Staff members take turns leading the explorations of themes that aim to deepen faith and encourage community. Some of the recent themes have been the Prayer of St. Francis, the Jesse Tree, and Acts of the Holy Spirit. CelebrationsThere are times when students gather together as a whole school to celebrate the goodness of God. These celebrations become traditions as we relive these experiences year after year. In the fall we celebrate the Jewish feasts of Rosh Hashanah, Succoth, Simhat Torah. Before our November break there is a Thanksgiving Play. At Christmas, we join in a Latin American celebration of Las Posadas and of the Three Kings on Epiphany. We observe Lent with Ash Wednesday, which leads to Holy Week with special worship times of a Palm Celebration, The Way of the Cross, and a Passover Meal. The Easter Season brings us to Ascension and Pentecost. Parents are invited to join us in these events. Each class in the school is responsible for hosting one of the celebrations. The celebrations recognize the diversity of cultures that make up our school and the unity that we have in the one God who loves us, we are moved to respond not only in worship but in lives of service. |
