Community Life

First and foremost a community

clapping gameMustard Seed School is a school that is rooted in faith.  Students learn and take risks within the context of a community that serves and cares for one another.   The common element—from the Head of School to the faculty and students—is a commitment to excellence, perseverance and mutual cooperation.  Teachers and students focus on building relationships within the classroom and together create a class set of rules that are known by everyone. These rules and the rule making process underscore for students and teachers the value that the classroom is an authentic community of learners.

In daily life at Mustard Seed School, students experience

  • A safe and beautiful learning environment
  • A rhythm of celebrations and traditions that anchor the school year
  • A diverse community with a variety of backgrounds and languages
  • A time of worship and reflection

The school recognizes each child as unique and celebrates the gifts that they bring to the community. Faculty and staff are committed to knowing each child.

Class size does not exceed 22 students.  Such classes are large enough to encourage independence and small enough for personal attention.
