Dear Fellow AlumniHave you ever wondered what's been going on at Mustard Seed, the little school you went to way back when? For many years after I graduated from Mustard Seed, I had little contact with the school. But one day while walking in Church Square Park, I encountered one of my former teachers. Among other things, she told me that the school is extremely interested in hearing from its alumni! This chance meeting with Ms. White prompted me to reconnect with Mustard Seed, and today I support it as a member of its Board of Trustees. Maybe it's been some time since you've thought about or heard from Mustard Seed. If so, I'd like to briefly update you on what the school's been doing. Of course, the most important thing is that Mustard Seed is still there and it's still strong. This year -- our 25th -- is a milestone in the life of the school. We're rejoicing that God has blessed us and directed us to be in Hoboken all this time, and we want to celebrate that fact. Over the years, Mustard Seed has remained faithful to its original mission: to reach urban families who might otherwise never have access to private schooling for their children. The mission is as fundamental today as it was in 1979 the day the doors opened. To make our 25th year one of remembrance and celebration, we've scheduled several exciting activities. In September, for instance, our Jubilee Committee held a school-wide Family Picnic and Walk-a-Thon. For the October Hoboken Art Studio Tour, we mounted an exhibit of alumni, parent, and staff art. On February 8 there will be an event you won't want to miss. Actor Max McLean will perform a one-man dramatic presentation of the Gospel of Mark and Joan Litman will conduct the Cantigas, a community women's chorus. In the spring, we're looking forward to the well-loved Bach Festival and the annual Spring Concert. As you become aware of the many things Mustard Seed is doing, we hope you will get in touch with the school. Please send an e-mail to info@mustardseedschool.org to tell us where you are these days and what you are doing. Please feel free to recount any fond memories from your elementary school days. We hope to see you at one of the remaining 25th-year activities. Perhaps one of these events will encourage you to renew your relationship with the school that has meant so much to you, to me and to hundreds of other children over the past 25 years I hope this message prompts a flood of warm memories from your years at Mustard Seed. I hope, too, that you'll consider giving back to a school that has no doubt touched your life in many vital ways. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, Lys Lopez Lacey, Mustard Seed School Alumni Committee Class of '86 |
