Mustard Seed Offers Full-Day Fours Program
Mustard Seed School Announces
New Full-Day Four-Year-Old Program
May 10, 2010 Hoboken, NJ—Mustard Seed School announced today that it will offer a new, full-day
four-year-old program in its preschool, The Nest, beginning in September 2010. This is in addition to its current half-day offerings for three and four-year-olds. The Nest curriculum focuses on academic readiness for Kindergarten, using artistic media to express learning, developing social skills and exploring faith. The pacing of the full-day class will enable teachers to work more in-depth with preschool students. Students will benefit from the larger school community and have access to music classes, art instruction and physical education. Ideal candidates are four-year-old students who want the stimulation of a longer program and have the stamina for a full day. The class size will be up to eighteen students.
The Nest began in 2006 as a half-day program with 16 students. It has expanded to four classes over the past four years and has the potential to serve up to 66 students in the fall. “I’m thrilled about the growth of the program,” said Nest director Shanna Pargellis, “Part of Mustard Seed School’s mission is to broaden the experiences of city children and to be accessible to students of all backgrounds. This year 57 percent of our families receive financial aid. Adding this new class is the next step in living out our mission.”
The new program is a change from a plan announced in 2009 to offer a mixed-age preschool and Kindergarten class. “We’ve received a positive response from the community for a full-day four-year-old program. Although we do plan to add a mixed-age class in the future, we see that adding a full-day fours class this fall better serves the needs of young families in Hudson County,” said Christine Metzger, Head of School.
There are currently openings in both the full-day and half-day programs. Financial aid is available. Interested parents should contact Sebastian Olukun, Director of Admissions, (solukun@mustardseedschool.org) for more information.
