“I think a lot about Mustard Seed and my many moons there when I plan ways to get kids excited about my lessons,” she says. “I squeeze in as much acting, drawing, and creativity as I can. I also think about my MSS teachers, especially Ms. Mingey. I try to channel her patience across the ocean blue.”
A graduate of High Tech High School and Syracuse University (BFA, Sculpture), Adele is enjoying the expat artist network in Korea. Her work has even been featured in some art shows.
Korea is a small country compared to the U.S. so Adele has found it easy to explore several cities and natural sites in her spare time. And eat lots of spicy Korean food. This adventure is reminiscent of another trip she took not too long ago. “In college, I spent a semester abroad in Italy. Highlights included trips to Padua, Pietra Santa, Venice, and of course, my favorite city, Florence, where I stayed. I also traveled to Madrid, Barcelona, and Malta.”
When her contract at the hagwon ends in March, Adele plans to go on a three-month trip through South East Asia, Hong Kong, and the Phillippines before returning to the United States.
And her future? “For a long time I have been interested in combating human trafficking. I know that I want to be doing something tactile and creative. I’m considering ways to combine my skills and interests. I hope to make a difference.”
