Kindergarten Summer Reading List
For Students Entering Kindergarten
One of the joys of childhood is story-time, that special time when the grown-up puts everything else aside for a few minutes and reads to the child. The love expressed in this simple act is deeply felt and long remembered.
We know that children who are read to daily enter kindergarten with more vocabulary, better listening skills and a natural expectation that they will read too. There is not a better or easier way to prepare your child for school than the shared time and language a book can provide.
You may have many favorite books you love to read. If so, stick with them, for young children benefit from hearing favorite stories over and over. We know that the five-year-old loves to hear stories of princesses and castles, giants and dragons, talking animals and magic.
Any telling of a classic tale such as The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Snow White, The Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, The Three Pigs would be a good story to share.
